Ronnie Peterson’s March 721x to The Race Legends

The Swedish Formula One Legend Ronnie Peterson’s old March 721x from England comes to The Race Legends for a show. Behind the wheel we find the current owner and F1 fan Magnus Ahlqvist. - It is with a very great respect and humility that I am doing this. It’s history and just the thought that the only person has driven this car before, Ronnie Peterson, feels amazing, says Magnus.

Magnus bought the March 721x from England four years ago. Since then, he has been working to renovate it to its original condition. The last race the car participated in was in the Belgian Grand Prix 1972 and Ronnie was forced to stop due to the car was very difficult to drive. It was very successful the year before and this model was built for Ronnie to win the World Cup. But it was a bit too advanced with many new inventions so there was never any real success, continues Ahlqvist.

The car was constructed by March-designer Robin Herd and competed in five races during 1972. The car has the most classic of Formula 1 engines, a 3-liter V8 Ford Cosworth DFV that provides 470 horsepower at 10 500 rev.

- It’s very mechanical and it feels like hanging a V8 engine to your back. It was by far the fastest at the time. On this car there are no electronics, no facilities and security are not in line with modern requirements. It was really tough guys who drove these cars back then, says Ahlqvist.

Ahlqvist main goal is to drive The Monaco historic Grand Prix. The contest is run every two years, two weeks before the Formula One race in Monaco.

This car is really something to see. I think the audience will love it, says Jimmy Lindberg at The Race Legends.

How to communicate on the track – Racing Flags

Time 03:04, 2010/06/23

Racing flags are used in almost all motorsport to indicate track condition and to communicate important messages to drivers. Typically, the starter, sometimes the grand marshal of a race, waves the flags atop a flag stand near the start/finish line. On road courses, track marshals are also stationed at observation posts along the course in order to communicate both local and course-wide conditions to drivers. Alternatively, some racecourses employ lights to supplement the primary flag at the start/finish line.
